Types Of Mountain Biking

mountainbiking As a hobby or as a sport, mountain biking is considered to have 9 categories, which are presented below.

BMX

This style is usually used for dirt jumps or on skate parks, while the bikes come with wheels that have 20 inches. Since they have small wheels and wheel base, you find it easier to do stunts and tricks with them.

Cross country

With cross country, you use your mountain bike on hills, going up and down mostly. Even though this isn’t a mountain biking form that can be considered extreme, people that do cross country are usually quite fit.

Cyclo cross

When you combine mountain and road biking, you get the cyclo cross. Here, the riders will usually go through rivers, over obstacles, and go off and on the course.

Dirt jumping

This one involves people using their bikes to jump over obstacles that are man made and attempting tricks when they’re still in the air. During a single run, riders will usually go through at least six jumps.

Downhill

With downhill biking, you go downhill, with the biggest speed possible. It can be quite extreme and intense, offering plenty of excitement and thrills.

Freeride

With freerides, you find the best line as you go down the mountain and you have the entire terrain at your disposal. Many people love them since they are free to express themselves.

Single speed

With this type of biking, you use a bike that has a minimum of components and just a single gear.

Street and urban

Biking is done here in urban areas, with many obstacles that are man made. These riders will also do some tricks along the way.

Trails

Even though these bikes don’t resemble mountain bikes that much, they’re still considered as mountain biking. They come with 26 inch wheel, plus low frames.
