Mountain Biking Safety Tips

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA Mountain biking is an outdoor sport that is done by more adventurous people, where you take a mountain bike in dangerous locations, in some cases even life threatening.

Of course, you can always use it in perfectly safe locations, but just in case you go somewhere more difficult, below are a few tips to improve your safety while using a mountain bike.

Mountain biking gear

You should always wear a helmet, plus any other piece of safety equipment you have, when you’re using a mountain bike. Safety equipment should be used depending on what kind of rides you’re going to take, so more dangerous trails should be used only if you have the right gear for them. The absolute minimum when it comes to safety is to have a bike helmet, which can prove useful since you fall frequently when you’re on mountainous terrain.

Use approved trails

Use the map of the parks and see which trails are approved. If you ride off those trails, or you skid down some slopes, you damage the park and you help with the erosion, so the wildlife of the park is threatened by your actions.

Know your limits

One important tip when it comes to mountain bikes is to know how to control the speed, so you always have enough time to adjust when there are changes in the trail or when obstacles appear.

Watch for the blind corners

Sometimes you will not know what is behind a corner. In such a case, you should slow down immediately, to avoid any accidents.

Equipment

When you decide to go on an adventure with your mountain bike, you should always have certain equipment with you. First of all there is the first aid kit, then there are extra tubes, water, food, pocket knife, pump, pliers and so on.
